Torvar's Log

After assaulting the mining camp’s entrance and defeating some troglodytes, my newfound “allies” searched the camp and entered the mines. After another tense, but brief, battle in which I nearly died (I swear that might be a boon with the folk I’m traveling with nowadays!), we followed the most trafficked mine shaft to determine what the troglodyte’s are doing here. Strangely enough, it appears they were working with both a tiefling cultist and a dragonborn cultist to open some sort of portal. Luckily, we were able to defeat them and close the portal (not before a demon stepped through though), but we lost Flavius in the process (not that one less vampire in the world is necessarily a bad thing though, but he was useful in a fight).

Of course, with this group of people, no one can ever just pass normally. From Flavius’ ashes, a revenant named Nomad appeared and assumed Flavius’ role (and it’s just want we needed, another revenant in the group — and yes, Eson Gax, I am using sarcasm in my own “therapeutic” travel log. I don’t know why I listen to Myshka sometimes, this thing is bordering on insane and useless). After a brief round of introductions and some much needed rest, we headed back to Redwood to report about my travels.

I feel bad that this was the only group I could get to help our village. They do seem like a hardy group however. After checking in with the heads of our respective churches (Myshka of Eson Gax, and Durant of the Raven Queen), Malick met up with us and told us that the village has managed to continue to fend off minor groups of skirmishers (consisting of mixed groups of Byssal and humans) but that the attacks are coming more frequently. If we don’t do something soon, the village may have to be abandoned. He did provide us with a lead however,

Apparently, a large number of Byssal have been traveling through a cavern system in the nearby mountains. Checking it out, my compatriots (minus Goblin, who stayed behind to help with the village’s defenses) and I fought off a couple of hook horrors at the cave’s entrance. Some sort of magical collars seemed to controlling them to protect the cave entrance. We traveled through the cave system and emerged from another cave overlooking a valley. Within the valley is a fortified encampment of some sort. Being the explorers that we are, we tried to slip through the sewers into the fort when we were attacked by gargoyles. Hopefully, nobody nearby heard us defeat them (yeah, right!).

August Session

Having spent some time in Sigilrock, the party agrees to “assist” Torvar in removing the threats besieging this town, Redwood. Also, they wish to find out why Torvar, in addition to themselves, is described on a list of targets to be assassinated that they recovered on their journey to Eidolon. Prior to meeting the party, Torvar had discovered an abandoned mining camp with signs that some of the attacks on his town may have originated from it. He had ventured to Sigilrock (meeting the party on the way) in order to find others to help him fully explore the mines.

While Torvar leads the party to the mines they are attacked by a band of troglodytes, wolves and worgs. A quick investigation of the war band following its defeat leads the party to believe that the troglodytes were just lying in wait to ambush anybody who passed. The party, now wary of the troglodyte presence, approaches the mining camp with cautiously. They discover that the camp is now defended by more troglodytes.

Realizing that they don’t have a ton of options, the group decides to storm the gates to the camp and hope their prowess can defeat the gate’s defenders. Relatively successful (one troglodyte manages to flee into the mine entrance), the party quickly searches the camp and the mine entrance. Finding little of value and no real information, they pursue the fleeing troglodyte into the mines. Traveling only a short way into the mines, the party finds itself facing the fleeing troglodyte and more of its allies. Unfortunately, this battle doesn’t go nearly as well for the party. Despite defeating most of their enemies, the party finds itself it dire straits – Torvar lies nearly dead and Adic has disappeared into a pit trap while chasing down the remaining troglodyte. Will Torvar die? Where is Adic? Are they ever going to finally kill that bastard troglodyte who keeps managing to survive and escape?

July Session

Down a couple of members, our group of adventurers decides to quickly regroup at Flavius’ manor and decide on the their next course of action. Having decided that they must flee Freeport to escape retaliation, the party gathers those things that they need and decides to wait until the cover of night to begin their escape. Unfortunately, their opposition has other things in mind.

Quickly striking, a team of assassins sent by their goblinoid enemies attacks the group at Flavius’ manor. They quickly dispatch Flavuis’ manservant, Nelson, and seem poised to end Flavius’ mockery of life. However, the timely return of their ally, Adic, helps save the party. Thus, begins their life on the run.

Traveling through the Free Marches on their way to Eidolon, the party is ambushed by a band of tiefling assassins. A search of the dead assassins bodies reveals a list of assassination targets that includes the party members as well as additional description of a male human.

The party manages to uneventfully travel onwards within the Marches to next nearest village, Fragilerock (a outlying “suburb” of the largest town in the area, Sigilrock). While resting at the local inn, the party is again attacked by a group of assassins. While fighting, the tieflings light the inn on fire to add confusion to the battle. The party, however, grits it out and is able to defeat their enemies and help the townspeople save part of inn and the surrounding buildings. They even manage to capture and question one of their opponents before disposing of him. They learn that the other person on the list is a priest in a small community called Redwood, which houses temples to both the Raven Queen and Eson Gax.

Having hired on with a caravan traveling to Sigilrock, the party heads out with a caravan shortly thereafter. On the road, the caravan is attacked by a peryton. During the fight, a mysterious figure arrives to aid in the monster’s defeat. After killing the peryton, the party learns the mysterious figure is Torvar Larcenn, a priest of Eson Gax from the town of Redwood. What strange coincidence is this? Is Torvar who is says he is? Why is traveling this road alone? What do he and the group have in common that would cause someone to want to assassinate them?
